President Ruto: Waste from cleanup exercise in Nairobi will be used to generate electricity.

President William Ruto has announced that the government intends to generate electricity from refuse collected during an upcoming Nairobi cleanup.

President Ruto acknowledged the city's waste needs to be managed, given the mass pollution witnessed within its precincts, during a church service at Friends Church (Quakers) in Donholm on Sunday.

According to President Ruto, all city emitters have been identified, and cleanup will begin with their landfills.

"I have already agreed with the Nairobi Governor that we will clean Nairobi. We must bring back the glory of the city of Nairobi by dealing with refuse,"

"We are identifying all the effluent emitters, we have completed that exercise and we are going to clean the city of Nairobi."

The trash collected, according to President Ruto, will be used to generate electricity for Nairobi residents and others.

"And not just clean the city, we are also going to generate electricity out of the refuse of Nairobi City, we have the plan for it," said Ruto.

"I have assured Nairobi county that the government of Kenya at the national level will stand with you until we clean the city of Nairobi because this is the city we are bringing up our children in and we will do the same in all the other cities."

The Head of State also stated that the cleanup will be carried out in tandem with a greening exercise in which trees will be planted throughout the country.

Collaborations between the county government and the Ministry of Environment, he says, will help achieve this.

In the same breath, President Ruto reiterated his commitment to lowering Kenya's high cost of living, promising that the price of maize flour will fall further beginning next week.

He stated that his government is committed to providing Kenyans with affordable and improved services, as well as eradicating poverty and hunger.
